There are ways to treat Drug Addiction!

Detoxification

Detoxification or detoxication is the physiological or medicinal removal of toxic substances from a living organism, including the human body, which is mainly carried out by the liver. It is an effective way to remove the drugs from the body and stop the immediate reactions and cravings.

Medically-assisted detox allows you to rid your body of addictive substances in a safe environment. This is beneficial because sometimes substance withdrawal can cause unpleasant or even life-threatening physical symptoms. Because detox does not treat the underlying behavioral causes of the addiction, it is typically used in combination with other therapies.

For example Alcohol addiction detox. Detox is the first stage of treatment for alcoholism and helps patients safely withdraw from alcohol while closely monitored by trained and highly experienced nurses and doctors. Alcohol detox takes place in a comfortable environment where patients can relax and recover for the duration of withdrawal. Some places provide the patient with medications that reduce symptoms, including seizures, and with highly nutritious meals that strengthen the immune system and restore nutrients lost from heavy alcohol use.

According to the World Health Organization, alcohol withdrawal and detox may last between 2 and 10 days. The patient should drink plenty of water during detox to stay hydrated and take vitamin supplements, including vitamin B1, to prevent cognitive problems. Medications including diazepam could be used to treat specific symptoms, especially for those with moderate to severe alcohol withdrawal syndrome who are at risk for experiencing seizures.
